Country Music Awards: CMA, Country Songs, Artists And Writers

The Country Music Awards are fast becoming the most historical and most entertaining awards show today. The Country Music Awards, or CMA Awards, are known as country music's biggest night, and celebrates country music artists, country music writers, and country songs. Some of the biggest names in country music have graced the Country Music Awards stage.
The Country Music Awards began in 1967 ,and are voted on by business members of the Academy of Country Music.
Generally, the CMA Awards are held in Nashville during the fall, usually in the months of October or November. Tickets are available to the public and range from $150-$200.
The awards are presented to both country music writers and country music artists. Although there are many awards given out, only a select amount of awards are presented on television. The awards that are televised include the prestigious entertainer of the year award, male and female vocalist of the year, song of the year, vocal duo of the year, vocal group of the year, and more. Awards like single of the year, song of the year, and songwriter of the year are meant specifically for country music writers.
The first Country Music Awards was hosted at the Nasvhille's Municipal auditorium. Sonny James and Bobby Gentry hosted and presented the entertainer of the year award to Eddy Arnold. As the years passed and the CMA Awards gained popularity, they began to be televised. The first televised Country Music Awards show was in 1969, two years after its beginning.
The 1969 televised CMA Awards couldn't have come at a better time. This is the year that Johnny Cash broke out on to the country music scene. The Academy of Country Music recognized this and presented Cash with many awards. Cash received awards for entertainer of the year, single of the year, album of the year, male vocalist of the year, and vocal group of the year.
Today, the CMA Awards are more popular than ever for many reasons. First, unlike most awards shows, the CMA Awards sells tickets to the public. Also, the grass root mentality of country music is reinforced through the CMA Awards by presenting awards to country music artists that have made a difference in the country genre throughout the years. Finally, the Country Music Awards is known for its accuracy in choosing a winner for the awards fairly.
As a result of country songs and artists becoming more popular, the Country Music Awards have strutted into mainstream culture with little problem. Flashy performances, earnest acceptance speeches, and cowboy hats have become a staple in the Country Music Awards. With such a following, the Country Music Awards are sure to remain popular for years to come.
