Male Country Music Artists: Classic, New And Top Artists
By:
Published: May 3, 2007
What do male country music artists get when they play their songs backward? An old joke claims that they would reclaim their wives, houses, children, money, and all other possessions that make life worth living. Country music has long been chided for its sappy lyrics and melancholy melodies, but there is a lighter side to the country music industry as well.
Most people's image of classic country music artists consists of the legendary George Jones or Merle Haggard drowning their sorrows in a bottle of Jack Daniels while haphazardly scribbling tragic lyrics on a paper plate at the local bar. This is far from reality of today's country music artists.
Names and faces of male country music artists like Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, and Kenny Chesney have replaced the old tears and beers image of classic country music. These men are just three of the top male country music artists sweeping the nation with their popular songs and lyrics that we know as the new country. Unlike their predecessors, these modern male country music artists have replaced traditional themes in country music with happier ones that parallel their lives of happy relationships with their wives and children, doing what they love, and living the American Dream.
Born in Louisiana in 1967, Tim McGraw is one of the top country music artists. He is the winner of three Grammy awards, 11 Academy of country music awards, and 26 of his singles reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country 100 chart. His song "Last Dollar" spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Country Hot 100. He gained popularity when touring with his wife, Faith Hill, and married her 10 years ago after a proposal during a performance. Devoted country music fans became attached to following his tour and marriage, and eventually the birth of his children. Songs such as "I Like It, I Love It," "It's Your Love," and "Live Like You Were Dying" capture McGraw's positive attitude and persuade listeners to adopt the same outlook on their own personal lives.
Similarly, Oklahoma-born Toby Keith is also included in the ranks of top country music artists. He captures the lighter side of life with his 2001 hit "I Wanna Talk About Me." It pokes fun at the idea that high-maintenance females often dominate conversation in a traditional modern American relationship.
Music was a second choice for Toby Keith, as he began his career in the oil industry. Shortly after obtaining a managerial position, his company felt the decline of the industry and Keith was soon unemployed. Keith began playing football and giving more attention to his band in his spare time. Soon he joined the ranks of the top country music artists with singles such as "I Should've Been a Cowboy" in 1993. Keith is married and enjoys life with his wife and three children.
Also considered among today's notable country music artists is Tennessee-born Kenny Chesney, 39.
Listeners, both male and female, are attracted to the idea of finding the ONE person to settle down and grow old with. Songs like Chesney's keep the hope alive and remind fans not to lose sight of their own dreams. It is this optimistic attitude that won him the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year title in 2006, an award that is only bestowed upon top country music artists.
Country music is often referred to today as "feel-good" music, and Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith are country music artists that provide their listeners with songs that are no exception to that generalization. Their new country makes us laugh, cry, and feel sentimental about moments in our lives that we share with the general public. Listeners don't have a problem understanding their lyrics and often want to sing along when a new country song comes on the radio. These male country music artists have proven themselves to be the top country music artists of today.
